FMA team rider, Kyle Mckrow leads Gordon Horne by 2 points  in Novice Stock class headed into the final rounds of the CWA Canadian Tour. Jon Ashe, is also leading in Novice Limited class. Pro-am open rider Derek Fuoco is sitting in 2nd place overall for the tour. The week prior to the final rounds in Wasaga Beach, ON. Derek will compete in Pro-am Stock class at the US Nationals in West Virgina.

November 2013- With FMA Racing, out of Ontario, Canada. I traveled down to Florida for the 2013 P1 Aqua X USA Championship Round in St. Cloud FL. Myself and teammate , Jon Ashe, had numerous changes done to our skis prior to this race to bring them back to a "factory stock" level with only handling modifications and props allowed. We were pretty well prepared arriving in Florida a week early to ride and test for a much different style of racing compared to the closed course scene. The Aqua X course was calm lake, 2.5 Miles, long wide open with about 7 corners for a 15 minute moto on Saturday and two 30 minute motos for Sunday. It was difficult to prepare for this without having nearly 40 boats on the track creating wakes and back markers like the conditions were during the race. The 1st moto for the super pole race I was in the pole position and had a good jump on the line but was cut off bad by the team Kawasaki rider who was later penalized. By letting off the throttle I gave up a few positions but ended up with 6th overall for the moto . With almost 40 riders, using a rolling start was difficult for the course marshal's to get a fair and safe alignment of the line, coupled with riders having no sight of the 1.5 mile first left red corner buoy, the start was a disaster. Many other riders abandoned their lines and received no penalties.The moto should of been red flagged and restarted. Going into Sundays two 30 minute motos. Aqua X installed a much bigger buoy to help riders keep their lines on the starts. The first moto again had a sketchy feel to it as no one is lined up in a equal manner side to side or front to back. I got off the line bad and had a rider go down in front of me . I had a great race though after that and really liked the way you were able to make passes more freely than a closed course race. Being out their 30 minutes you would also notice how the pack came together more towards the end of the race. I made a several passes and finished 3rd or 4th overall. However, upon going out for the 3rd moto I was informed I was in 11th place, this was without a time penalty issued.My team mate, Jon Ashe, placed 10th place, who I lapped. I spoke with the race director and they admitted they were having issues with scoring because of the amount of skis in this race which was much more than they were accustomed to. Next year with the amount of skis on the line and abundance of technology in 2014 there is no reason we shouldn't have transponders or some other more reliable method for scoring next year. The 3rd moto I really was pushing it hard and came off going for a pass. I finished in 10th overall for the weekend. I think if the Aqua X starting procedure and the scoring system are upgraded, which I have confidence will be, this style of racing will be the future for racing runabouts. P1 Aqua X is the most professional promotion I have raced and I plan on attending all the rounds for 2014 with FMA Racing.  I want to thank My family, FMA Racing, P1 Aqua X crew, Livingston auto, Liquid militia, Hydro turf, Riva, jet X Powersports and Aqua Mania. |
